Rig and Furrow

NT 7435 1940

Hownam

Several plots of rig, covering about 9ha in total, are situated in unimproved ground on the NE-facing slopes of Shibden Hill, to the S and E of Whitton Loch. The majority of the rig is broad and curvilinear, being defined by both deep furrows and shallow grooves, often being subdivided by the latter. The rig is generally aligned across the contour.
