Field Visit (3 July 1996)
This farmstead, which lies in improved pasture to the SW of Achnacarron, comprises buildings, set around three sides of a rectangular yard, and a kiln barn. What was probably the farmhouse lies to the S of the yard (LORN96, 415); it is rectangular, measuring 17.7m from ENE to WSW by 4.2m transversely within a wall 0.8m thick and 1m high. The interior is divided into two compartments and there is a doorway in each side wall. The other two buildings lie parallel to one another on opposite sides of the yard. The E building (LORN96 416), probably the barn, measures 14.2m by 4.3m within a wall 0.8m thick and 0.8m high; there are opposed entrances on the sides, and the back door opens on to a stackyard containing four stone stack-bases. The W building (LORN96, 417) measures 14.1m by 4.4m within a wall 0.8m thick and 0.75m high; the interior is divided into three compartments, the N two of which have separate entrances, and an outshot has been added to the SSE end. A trackway crosses the open (N) end of the yard, and let into the slope on the N side of the track opposite the barn, there is a kiln barn (LORN96, 418). It is rectangular, measuring 5.1m by 3.3m internally, with the kiln set into the slope on the N; the bowl is 2.1m in diameter with the flue on the SSE.
