(Location cited as ND 131 519). One of two almost identical 1- and 2-storey rubble-built mills of late 18th or early 19th century, the other (West Mill) being at ND 129 519). The eastern mill is partly used as a power station, with a water turbine. Its wheel is 'preserved' at the opposite end of the building, the remains consisting of the skeleton of a wood and iron overshot 8-spoke wheel, 3ft 8ins (1.11m) wide by 12ft (3.66m) diameter.

East Mill, Westerdale. Roofed mill similar to Mon. 514 (see ND15SW 34), the NW part two-storey, the SE area single-storey, associated with the wheel pit.

R J Mercer, NMRS MS/828/19, 1995

Two cornmills are marked as roofed buildings (at ND 1293 5191 and ND 1304 5190) on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxii) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
