Leschangie Quarry (disused) [NAT]

OS 1:10,560 map, 1970.

Together with Rubislaw (NJ90NW 124), the most important granite quarries in Aberdeenshire, Paradise Hill (NJ71NW 29), Whitestones (NJ71SE 24), Tom's Forest (NJ71NE 29) and Leschangie employed 300 men in the 1860's.

J Butt 1967.

(Classified as Quarry; Quarry Workings). Leschangie Quarry is the largest of several quarries that were opened in the late 19th century and are depicted on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1901, sheet lxvi.NE). The initial workings, now covered with trees, were in the SW part of the area and they had already gone out of use by the end of the 19th century. The quarry was still in use in 1901, but it has long been abandoned, and, together with its adjacent spoil tips, is heavily overgrown.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ATW), 28 September 1998.
