(ND 1404 5801) Pict's House (NR) (Remains of)

OS 6" map, Caithness, 2nd ed., (1907)

Site of an ancient 'Tulloch' or 'Pict's house'.

Name Book 1872.

A low in definite mound, situated in a nearly level pasture field, measures about 22.0m in diameter and 0.8m in height. It is almost completely ploughed-out, defying positive identification. From its situation it is more likely to be a broch rather than a cairn.

Visited by OS (N K B) 11 November 1965.

(ND 1404 5801) Mound (NR)

OS 6" map, (1970)

This mound is as described by the previous field investigator. It is situated on the highest point in the field and from its slightness and regularity it would seem to be a cairn rather than the remains of a broch, though no stones nor any diagnostic features are exposed. (See also ND15NW 8.)

Visited by OS (J B) 23 December 1981

Mound, Houstry Mains. Diameter: 22m. Circular grass-covered mound.

Possible broch in Halkirk, Caithness, consisting of a low, indefinite mound about 22m in diameter and 0.8m high; it has been almost completely ploughed out and has been tentatively diagnosed as the fragmentary remains of a cairn as well as of a broch [1].
