Archaeology Notes

NT84NE 56 88747 47614

Ladykirk primary school ceased being used as a school in 1966 and from then until recently was used as a garage. The building is now lying empty.

Information from D Easton March 1995

A visit during September 2004 noted that the school was undergoing a conversion to a house. An extension on the E and N sides of the building was underway, though many of the original features such as windows and the datestone on the S elevation were being retained. To the rear, the former girls playground shelter with two wrought iron pillars supporting the roof, survives though in a poor condition, as does the boys WC block with four cubicles. The fomer boys playground shelter also survives, but had been converted many years ago for use as a shed.

The interior has been considerably altered, particularly the area formerly used as a car repair area. New floor joists, several stud partition walls and a rear entry ramp were in the process of construction on the date of visit. No date for completion of this conversion was given.
