Most of the buildings in this complex were constructed between 1959 and 1962, when the facility first opened. The majority of the buildings are constructed from re-inforced concrete, with pleasing combinations of semi-circular concrete vaults and octagnonal pillars. The walls are generally consructed from light brown Englich 'Accrington Nori' facing brick. the lower courses being blue engineering brick (also probably English). Some parts of the material stores and other buildings have been rendered with roughcast, parts of which have fallen off revealing common composition bricks, most definately of Scottish origin. However, the site has been extremely well maintained, and was in excellent order when visited in 1994 immediately prior to closure. In 1993 the plant produced 4.4 million cases of whisky. After the closure, it is possible that a number of buyers or tenants for the site will be found. The closure of this complex and the loss of the Dunfermline and Broxburn will reduce United Distillers to three bottling plants.
