World War One Audit of Surviving Remains

The Arbroath, Marketgate drill hall was in existence by 1903. A two- and three-storey front block stands in front of a large hall behind like an upturned ship's hull. In 1914 the hall was drill station for "D" Squadron, Fife and Forfar yeomanry, base for Forfar Battery, 2nd Highland Brigade Royal Field Artillery, and the HQ and "E" and "F" Companies of the 5th battalion Black Watch.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 21 June 2013.
