Archaeology Notes

ND39NW 105 3254 9982

The Lodge comprises a single structure:

(a) Unusual foundation remains suggest long, narrow, extensive main hall/parlour (Room II) with stove at north end. Other living areas (Rooms I and III) at opposing sides to south and north respectively. Each partitioned and each with fire area(s) and bay windows. Rooms IV and V appear to be of lean-to construction. Extensive use of cemented stone sleeper foudations. Structure built using drystone walling with some brick and concrete around windows. Extensive external rendering.

Associated features:

(b) Concrete platform c 10 x 4m situated approx. at centre of northern boundary wall. Long axis approx. E/W. Military.

(c) Dugout c 3 x 1.5m and 0.5m deep situated approx. at centre of southern boudary wall. Slight evidence of original banking of earth and turf. Military.
