Archaeology Notes

NJ72SE 124.01 7786 2028

For associated mill house and offices (NJ 7784 2032), see NJ72SE 124.02.

(Location cited as NJ 777 204 and name as Grain mill, Inverurie). Early to mid 19th century. A large 3-storey, 6-bay rubble building with an asbestos roof, with 2-storey stores. Now partly obscured by modern additions.

J R Hume 1977.

A large building, noted as 'Corn and flour mill' is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, sheet liv, 1869) as being built over an arm of the Aberdeen - Inverurie Canal (NJ72SE 123.00). The present large mill building (which is in re-use as a tractor repair depot) appears to be a more recent replacement.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 30 October 1994.

(Location cited as NJ 7785 2028). Grain mill, partly obscured by later additions. In course of development, 1994.

Air photographs: AAS/93/14/G27/2-22, flown 27 October 1993.

NMRS, MS/712/36.
