Archaeology Notes

NT01SW 24 0348 1174

At NT 0348 1174 a hut platform was discovered in an area of pasture that had been heavily quarried in the past, probably for railway construction. The platform faces W and is 13m wide by 7m deep with a small rear scarp 0.5m high, and a gently sloping front scarp.

M P Robins 1993.

On the date of visit, no trace of this alleged hut platform could be located. The grid reference cited by Robins falls within an area where there are a number of low scarps; some of these are possibly natural, but others probably mark the edges of tracks leading to a gate in a nearby stone wall.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, SPH), 21 June 1995.
