Archaeology Notes

NT08NE 1.13 089 872

A watching brief was undertaken by Scotia Archaeology Limited during the excavation of narrow trenches to accommodate the cables of an external lighting system at the abbey. To the N of the church several recumbent post-Reformation grave slabs were uncovered, as were two possible walls and what appeared to be a paved area comprising mainly fire-reddened, snadstone flags. Trenching on the S side of the church, along Maonastry Street and just inside Pittencrieff park was all through recently disturbed ground and nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered in those areas.
