Archaeology Notes

NT15NE 59 Centred 172 587

A sheepfold and two small areas of rig were noted on the lower E-facing slopes of Spittal Hill at a point where an unnamed burn from the slopes Monks Rig joins the Monks Burn.

The sheepfold still stands with walls up to 0.3m in height and the rig is situated on the terrace to the SW above the burn. It consists of two small areas which are just visible as vegetation marks in an area of improved pasture.

Information from D Easton 23 October 1994.
