Archaeology Notes

NG54SE 32 centred 5819 4455

Situated on the rear of the beach and N of the An Leth Allt are the remains of at least five boat nausts and two related structures. The larger and best preserved building (at NG 5817 4450) is stone-built and measures 9m N-S by 4.5m E-W over very broken walls. Between the above building and the sea there are the very badly degraded remains of a second structure. The five boat noosts are all stone-lined "U" shaped depressions measuring 4.5m by 2.0m internally.

Visited by A McNicol and I Marshall, 27 March 1991.

Site recorded during a survey of the townships of North and South Screapadal plus the surrounding area carried out by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA) in April 1998 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay (Macdonald and Scott Wood 1997).
