Accessing Scotland's Past Project

An early form of industrial boiler has been re-used on Ferney Hill Farm as a water tank.

The boiler is of the egg-end type, and probably dates from the nineteenth century. It was made from plates of iron, riveted together to form a cylinder with a domed top. The dome allowed pressure to build up efficiently, and the water inside it was heated by means of an external fire.
