Archaeology Notes

NJ51NE 51 5740 1664

On the date of visit no trace of any pens were found on the southern edge of Murray Park, but there are the remains of rig-and-furrow cultivation in the form of a narrow E to W strip (NJ 5738 1663 to 5750 1663), in which the rigs are aligned N and S and measure about 7m in breadth. The ground to the N of these rigs falls quickly to what was once boggy ground, and the surviving rigs therefore probably represent the truncated remains of a larger plot which originally extended into the improved field to the S.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 25 October 1996.
