Archaeology Notes

NG54NE 8 5755 4602

Approximately 60m SW of the road in an area of bracken and grass and about 110m OD is a very degraded single cell rectangular shieling. The remains measure 3m by 3.5m and a possible entrance is visible in the W corner. Just outside the S wall is an overgrown circular stone setting which measures c.2.0m in diameter.

Site recorded during a survey of the townships of North and South Screapadal plus the surrounding area carried out by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA) in April 1998 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay (Macdonald and Scott Wood 1997).
