Field Visit (9 September 1993)

NR36NE 68 390 683

For general description of lead mining in ths area, see NR36NE 21.

The remains of two shafts and a possible drift mine, or adit, lie some 140m to the SW of Finlaggan Museum, at the NE end of Loch Finlaggan. Both shafts are surrounded by spoil (NR 3908 6836 and 3904 6831). The possible drift mine, or adit, lies 7m to the SSE of the southernmost shaft and is visible as little more than a U-shaped cutting, opening to the loch, with a slight rim of spoil.

Visited by RCAHMS (ARW, SPH), 9 September 1993.
