Archaeology Notes

ND06SW 33 0490 6438.

At ND 0490 6438, on the summit of Baillie Hill, are the remains of a long horned cairn, now overgrown with turf. It is 63.0m long from NW to SE, and comprises a distinct mound at the SE end, 16.0m NW-SE by 15.0m transversely and 0.9m high, with the remainder of the cairn low and fading towards the NW, where it is about 7.5m broad. There are vestigial horns at the S and E ends of the cairn, and at the high SE end are two upright, earthfast slabs aligned NW-SE and protruding 0.1m through the turf; they are 0.5m apart and are 0.9m and 0.6m long respectively.

There is no evidence of a chamber.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (J B) 19 October 1981.
