The site of Cowdenbeath Colliery, which is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheet 31), but not on the 2nd edition, (Fifeshire, 1896, sheet xxxiv SE), is now occupied by Seco Place. A second pit depicted on the 1st edition map (ibid) some 150m to the SW (NT 1666 9153) had developed into Cowdenbeath Colliery Pit No.3 by 1896, but has now been demolished and built over. The 2nd edition map also identifies three other pits of Cowdenbeath Colliery, namely Pit No.7 (NT19NE 35.01, NT 1634 9171), Pit No.8 (NT 1623 9164) and Pit No.9 (NT 1726 9164; See NT19SE 36). The sites of Pits Nos. 7 and 8 fall in the park adjacent to the swimming pool and the Police Station respectively. (Cleish91 180, 190, 258)

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH), 20 September 1991.
