Field Visit (2 September 1991)
NT19SW 13.03 1395 9479
The site of this mine has been entiely landscaped and the spoil tip has been converted into an all weather football pitch. Depicted on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheet 30) as an old coal pit, an air shaft and an engine house; by the 2nd edition (OS 6-inch map, Fifeshire, 1896, sheet xxxiv NE) it had become Blairadam Colliery Pit No.1. An air shaft depicted on the 1st ed (ibid) to the W falls in an area later occupied by Blairadam brickworks (NT 1382 9481), and an old coal pit shown a little further S falls at the mouth of Blairadam Blaes quarry (NT 1380 9476) (Provisional edition of the OS 6-inch, Fifeshire, 1946, sheet xxxiv NE); both the brickworks and the quarry have now been landscaped.
