Activities

Field Visit (16 September 1992)

NT19NE 32 centred 190 980

Two mines and three miners rows are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheet 31).

The sites of an 'old coal pit' and an 'old engine house' depicted on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (ibid), lies within the security fence of the Westfield Gas Research Plant (NT 1908 9807). They were only viewed through the fence, but it is unlikely that any surface features have survived.

The site of Capeldrae Colliery and its engine house (NT 1898 9797), which are depicted on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map (ibid), has been heavily landscaped and no more than a few heaps of spoil remain.

Nothing now remains of the three rows of cottages (NT 1965 9770), depicted on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map, (ibid), and annotated 'Colliers Houses'.
