Activities

Field Visit (26 August 1991)

NT09NW 25 0017 9626 and 0018 9640.

The site of Lambhill Colliery, which is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross, 1856, sheet xxix) to the S of Lambhill Wood, is now buried beneath a modern opencast tip. The disused shaft, which is depicted on the OS 1:10,000 (1980) at NT 0032 9663 in Lambhill Wood, was not located on the date of visit due to impenetrable undergrowth.

In the course of the visit, however, what appear to be four possible bell-pits (NT 003 967, Cleish 91 264) were discovered in gaps in the vegetation to the S of three small buildings.

(Cleish 91 5-6, 264)

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH) 26 August 1991.
