Archaeological Evaluation (10 October 2020)

NN 7458 0374 An initial 7.0 x 0.5m trench was opened, on 10 October 2020, on a possible broch as a first stage to further works. This identified the collapsed stone work of the structure. Two pieces of worked quartz were recovered from the topsoil.

Archaeological Evaluation (5 July 2021 - 15 July 2021)

NN 74585 03739 Ongoing exploration of a possible broch (Canmore ID: 78147; DES Volume 21, 133) near Stirling was carried out, 5–16 July 2021. Trenching revealed extensive plough damage and a background of worked lithics. To the exterior of the structure’s wall was a possible burnt in situ palisade. The disturbed external face of the structure was associated with a significant concentration of struck quartz, raising the possibility that the structure is in fact a ring cairn. In addition, a substantial glacial erratic was found to have been used as a working surface.
