The 1971 edition of the Ordnance Survey 1:10000 maps depicts ten structures, probably shieling-huts, on the south-east flank of Black Hillock.

Archaeology Notes

NJ20SW 6 centred 2470 0192

(Location cited as NJ 247 019). Black Hillock, Glen Gairn. The remains of at least ten longhouses have been recorded scattered across a hillside in an area of grouse moor on a moderate E- and SE-facing slope at an altitude of between 457 and 480m OD.
