(ND 0601 5498) Standing Stone (NR)

OS 6" map, (1964)

On the W slope of Ben Dorrery, just above the base of the base of the hill, is a slab pointed symmetrically, standing erect. It measures 3ft in height above ground, 3ft 5ins in breadth, 6ins in thickness, and faces N by E and S by W.

RCAHMS 1911, visited 1910.

This stone is as described by the RCAHMS. Around its base are several flat stones, some partially turf-covered. It is just possible that the standing stone is the side of a cist, and the stones are the remains of a small cairn (about 4m in diameter) but there is insufficient debris around to be certain about this.

Visited by OS (W D J) 6 April 1961.

The standing stone is as described above. The flat stones around the base do not appear to have any archaeological significance.

Visited by OS (J M) 10 July 1981.
