Archaeology Notes

HU36NE 10 3579 6780

(Location cited as HU 350 678). Whaling station, Brae, late 19th century. The only significant remains here is a small rubble jetty, extended in concrete.

J R Hume 1977.

The 1902 edition of the OS 6-inch map (Zetland, sheet xxix) indicates no buildings at HU 350 678, where Hume locates the whaling station. The slipway at HU 358 678 probably indicates its location.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 21 April 1988.
