Dinwoodie station was opened by the Caledonian Railway on 10 September 1847.

Dinwoodie station was probably opened on 15 February 1848 as an intermediate station on the Glasgow-Carlisle ('Annandale route') main line of the Caledonian Railway. It closed to regular passenger traffic on 13 June 1960. The line remains in regular use by passenger traffic, and has been electrified.
