Excavation (2 July 2015 - 15 July 2015)
NJ 98030 47830 A small excavation and standing building recording were undertaken, 2–15 July 2015, where maintenance work had exposed part of a tiled floor in the entrance hall of Aden House, a ruined 18th-century mansion partially reconstructed in the 19th century. The entrance hall is part of the building attributed to the Aberdeen architect John Smith and built in c1832. The tiles, which may be slightly later, were of a fairly plain geometric pattern. The excavation exposed a fine slate skirting and steps which led up into the house to an inner lobby, also originally tiled, which appeared to be above a cellar filled in with rubble.

Archaeological Evaluation (29 April 2019 - 12 May 2019)
NJ 98043 47829 An excavation took place at the ruined Aden Mansion (NJ94NE 63) between 29 April-12 May 2019. The ruin dates from 1758 when the Russel family purchased the estate from the Keith family who had owned it since the medieval period. Trenches targeted geophysical anomalies, including a fountain base and 1m deep stone-lined drain, as well as the walks of the mansion. Test trenches next to the ruin revealed an earlier building under the north wall which may be a pre-1759 structure. Further excavation may take place in 2020.
