Activities

Archaeological Evaluation (22 August 2016 - 24 August 2016)

AOC Archaeology Group were commissioned by CALA homes Ltd. to conduct and archaeological evaluation as a condition of planning consent for the first phase ('Phase 1') of a new development at Craibstone South (NJ 87061 10677) (Planning Ref. No. P140470). A 7% evaluation of the available 1,846m2 site (once services were taken into account) was conducted comprising of 940 linear metres of trenching. The evaluation revealed a heavily plough damaged sub-soil cut with improvement drainage, some possible rig and furrow and a large circular rock/root removal pit. No significant archaeological features or finds were discovered.

Standing Building Recording (22 June 2017)

AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Cala Homes (North) Ltd to undertake a programme of historic building survey at the site of the Scottish Rural College at Craibstone South to the north-west of the city of Aberdeen. The work is required as part of a planning condition on new development and will be undertaken in several phases. This report outlines the results of the first stage of works which includes the recording of the redundant colleges to the south-east of the development area - 'Phase 1' - both of which are late 20th century in date. Buildings surveyed in this phase are at NGR - NJ 87791 10679 and NJ 87609 10648
