Archaeology Notes

ND05NE 64 0714 5517.

A low mound measuring 43 x 11m x 1m high, set on a terrace overlooking Loch Calder 2 1/2km to the NE. Its SW end is very indistinct and the NE end has four depressions 8, 14, 19, and 25m from that end. Some stone is visible through the grass cover. The mound resembles a long cairn.

R J Mercer 1985.

Situated on a level site along the contour on a gently-sloping hillside of rough pasture, this mound could concievably be a very ruined long cairn, but this is very doubtful. There has been a 2-chambered building built in the E end and it is much disturbed for its length westwards revealing slabs. The W end seems to be bent to the S.

Visited by A S Henshall, 11 July 1987.
