Archaeology Notes

ND36SW 30 3469 6068

For second pillbox see ND36SW 25

A double row of anti-tank blocks is visible on a RAF vertical air photograph (106G/Scot/UK73, 4431, flown 9 May 1946). On the seaward side of of the row of blocks is a length of small 'pimples'. The line of blocks ends at c.ND 3483 6086.

This row once formed a continuous length of blocks with ND36SW 38 and includes a defensive pillbox ND36SW 25.

There is a second pillbox at ND 3469 6068 which is also visible on the air photographs as a circular feaure about 40m SW of a rectangular building. Constructed of brick and concrete, only the roof shows above ground level and it has the appearance of being deliberately collapsed. (Defence of Britain Project form, A Gutteridge 2001).
