Archaeology Notes

NJ26SW 140 21483 62796

A watching brief on a foundation trench for a wall, revealed remains of a former cobbbled surface containing 19th-century pottery. A drain which appeared to be contemporary with Thunderton House was observed at the eastern end of the trench. It was constructed of channelled slabs covered by flat slabs. Natural was reached at a depth of 0.55m below existing surface. It was concluded that the 0.40m depth of deposit over the natural may preserve archaeological evidence elsewhere alonf the S side of the High Street.
