Archaeology Notes

ND02SW 2 c. 01 24.

While the Earl of Sutherland was in the South of Scotland, John More MacKay invaded Sutherland with a company of men. They spoiled the east corner of the country and burnt and demolished St. Ninian's chapel, in Navidale. The Sutherland men however under Mack-Wick-Kames, chief of the Clan Gunn overtook them at the foot of Ben Moir in Berriedale. There the Sutherlands ambushed them beside the water of Garwary. The Mackays were defeated.

R Gordon 1813.
