Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Bughtrig House was built in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, with remodelling carried out in the late nineteenth century. Situated to the north-east of Leitholm village, this Classically-detailed house stands in extensive gardens.

The central part of Bughtrig House is higher than the balustraded flanking wings, with the central bay stepped out slightly. Originally built as a two-storeyed with basement house, the remodelling work of the late nineteenth century included the building of a large porch and the movement of the entrance to the basement. A large, flat-roofed addition was also constructed to the rear of the house at this time.
