Sbc Note

South Cote is the site of a late medieval/early Improvement era settlement. It is depicted on General Roy's military map (1747-55) as 'South Cott' and appears as a range of three buildings. South Cote is likely to have come into being as a shepherd's cottage early in the improvement era (17th or early 18th century). On the 1st Edition OS map the site is shown as a single building with garden enclosure and sheepfold.
