A smart, green, high-tech pavilion with curving glass walls, includes an exploration of the sensations and depth of a shale mine. In Livingston Mill Farm, 18th and 19th centuries - attractive steading, house, cornmill and ancillary buildings, rubble, slated and pantiled - the restored 16ft-diameter undershot mill wheel is in working order. Idyllic scene with mill lade, river, courtyards and ducks. Single-span, steel Charlesfield Bridge, 2006, by West Lothian Council with SA Hodge and Associates, allowed expansion of the Heritage Centre. Various additions by The Pollock Hammond Partnership. Open to the public; guidebook available

The archaeological monitoring works involved excavation of a service track running roughly north-south to the west of the old mill building and a small area of excavation to the south of the proposed toilet block. This area was considered the area most likely to yield significant archaeological material. No significant archaeological features or anthropic material was located.
