At NC 9539 6397, in open moorland, is a hut circle, 7.5m in diameter, within a heather-covered wall spread from 2.0m to 2.5m by 0.5m high; the entrance is in the ESE. There are indistinct traces of a structure abutting the S exterior. SE of the hut is a sinuous stretch of associated walling. In the general neighbourhood are old banks, probably contemporary with the ruins of a farmstead 150m SSE of the hut circle. Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 17 August 1981.
This hut-circle was noted during a pre-afforestation survey of Sandside Estate. It measures 7.5m in diameter with an entrance on the ESE. There are stretches of walling to the S and SE. Irregularly spaced orthostatic walling extends SE from the hut-circle, through rushes, to the farmstead (NC96SE 84). There are two possible clearance cairns along the course of this wall.
