South Auchenbeg farmstead is depicted as a roofed L-shaped building on the the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire, 1860-4, sheet xxxvii). The Ordnance Survey Name Book describes this as 'A farmsteading one storey, thatched in good repair. Property of J Alston Esq'.

The current OS 1:10000 scale map (1980) shows the farmstead as unroofed.

NS 799 354 area. A range of agricultural and industrial structures and features was surveyed at 1:500 scale, prior to destruction by open cast mining.

The farms of West (NS73NE 13) and East Auchansbeg were surveyed - the former an undeveloped, linear Lowland fermtoun with recorded occupation since 1695; the latter an early 19th century improved L-plan steading with associated landscaping features.
