Archaeology Notes

NX87NE 12 8703 7725

In the area centred NX 870 772, on the N slopes of Doon Hill, are the remains of a probable medieval field system, consisting of cultivation terraces, enclosures, clearance heaps, and at least one rectangular building foundation.

Visited by OS (DWR) 19 November 1973.

A farmstead annotated 'Ruins of', comprising one unroofed building annotated 'Ruin' and a field-system annotated 'Old Fences' are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Kirkcudbrightshire 1854, sheet 26), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1981).
