CARNTYNE

Carntyne Hall was built in 1802 for Robert Gray. John 'Iron' Gray sold the land to the Corporation for Carntyne Housing Scheme of nearly 3,000 houses, two thirds being tenements built in the second phase. This part of the new Edinburgh Road was laid out in the 1920s to serve Carntyne, reaching Baillieston during the 1930s. It was later to serve the post-war Queenslie Industrial Estate.
