EASTERHOUSE

Last of all the Edinburgh Road housing schemes is Easterhouse on the higher broken ground north of the Monkland Canal. One of the big four peripheral townships, each for upwards of 25,000 people. Some parts enjoy views of Bishop's Loch and beyond to the distant Kilsyth Hills and the Campsie Fells. The estate became known to some as 'The Holy City', because pre-Reformation Barlanark was an episcopal canon's prebend with Provan Hall as his seat.
