Farmstead at NN 6540 3884
A farmstead, comprising two unroofed buildings is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxix) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1981).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 23 February 1998.
This farmstead was surveyed and described by Edinburgh University Centre for Field Archaeology in 1989.
(see RCAHMS MS625/5 and DC14939CO).
NN 65385 38835. This farmstead, comprising two buildings and an enclosure, stands in enclosed pasture above the W bank of a tributary of the Allt a' Choire Chireinich, and about 1km NNW of Craggantoul House. The larger building (BL00 503) measures 13.9m from ENE to WSW by 3.9m transversely within rubble walls up to 1.5m in height. There is an entrance on the SSE and the interior is divided into two compartments. The other building (BL00 504) stands about 20m to the E, across a minor burn. Aligned NW and SE, it measures 10.6m in length and 4m in breadth within walls up to 1.5m in height. It too has been divided into two compartments; the SE compartment has opposed entrances, suggesting that it served as a barn, while the NW compartment has an entrance on the NE and an aumbry in the SW wall. Finally, the enclosure is attached to the NNW side of the larger building, and measures about 18m by 14m.
Both buildings are depicted unroofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet lxix).
