Archaeology Notes

NC92SW 19 9105 2091.

'The Abbot's Head' is the name given to a rudely carved stone head preserved in the garden wall of the manse.

New Statistical Account (NSA, G S Taylor) 1840

No trace of this figure was found at the manse (NC 9105 2091) and the occupier Major MacCall has no knowledge of it.

A 'three-faced Celtic god' from an unknown location in Sutherland was in the Dick Institute, Kilmarnock, but is now in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS, Accession no: IA 46).
