Archaeology Notes

NS53NW 39 Unlocated. RR 6.

Formerly RR 79b.

'West of Loudoun Hill (NS 605 371) cultivation appears to have destroyed all traces of the road, but the general course of the turnpike, at least as far as Newmilns (NS 5337), is consistent with a Roman design.' (St Joseph) 'There can be little doubt that (the road) followed the River Irvine to its mouth, where there must surely have been a fort and harbour.' (Maxwell)

J K St Joseph 1952; G S Maxwell 1989.
