Stac a'Bhothain is a precipitous promontory which juts out into the sea from the NE shore of the Oans peninsula. Fragments of masonry are visible on the landward side of the promontory, but they do not form part of a coherent scheme of defence, protecting the only possible point of access, a razor-backed neck which runs out from the coastal escarpment. The top of the promontory descends northwards in two terraces, the upper measuring 9m by 6m and the lower, some 3m below, 12m by 11m. The masonry, which ends in a squared-off angle, provides a revetment at least 5m in length and 3m in maximum height to the NW corner of the lower terrace. The date and purpose of this work are unknown.
