OS 6"map, (1963)
Three hut circles found during field investigation.
Visited by OS (E G C) 6 June 1961.
A settlement of four circular stone-walled hut circles (A-D), situated within a contemporary field system on the lower and middle slopes of a hillside exposed to the SE.
The huts, poorly preserved, are of simple form.
'A' is about 5.5m diameter within a wall of which occasional outer facing stones are to be seen. In the SW arc it is 1.4m thick. There is an entrance in the SE.
'B' is about 6.0m diameter within a wall spread to 2.0m. There was probably an entrance in the SE where the walling is now much depleted. 'C', set on the end of a small spur, is about 6.5m diameter within a wall spread to 1.5m; a depression in the SW may indicate an entrance. 'D' found at NC 9350 1015, is about 9.0m diameter within a wall of which occasional inner and outer facing stones are visible in the SW arc giving a wall thickness of 1.6m. There is an entrance in the SSE.
The field system is distinguished by numerous stone clearance heaps most concentrated in the area, 400.0m N-S by 300.0m, centred on NC 9372 1019; there is the odd lynchet and wasted field bank and some cultivation plots can be seen, average size 25.0m by 20.0m;just outside the field system to the NW, where 18th/19th century abandoned settlement intrudes, are a few further stone clearance heaps.
Hut 'D' surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J M) 12 Fbruary 1976.
