(NC 9240 1851) Long Cairn (NR).

OS 6" map, (1964)

On the moor about 1/2 mile SW of Kilournan is a long cairn. It lies with its longest axis E-W and is 108' long 27' wide at the W end and 43' wide at the E end. It rises from a low elevation at the W end to 7' in height at the E. Both extremities are rounded. Numerous excavations have been made in it, but no chamber appears to have been exposed.

RCAHMS 1911; A S Henshall 1963.

This long cairn is as described by Henshall. It now lies in a clearing within an area of afforestation. The higher E end of the cairn has a definite bulbous appearance in plan, possibly indicating two phases.

Visited by OS (J D) 31 May 1961 and (J B) 20 April 1976.
