BROOMHILL

Broomhill Mansion was purchased in 1875 to become a Home for Incurables, then a suburb was developed on the gently undulating land to the north of Victoria Park, from 1890. Victoria Park had been formed by Partick Burgh to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887 when the unique Fossil Grove of 350-million-year-old fossilised tree stumps was discovered. The Clyde Tunnel and Clydeside Expressway have cleared the tenements to the south.
