Field Visit (2 July 1991)

NJ04NE 9 0505 4603.

Towards the W end of a spur on the N side of the Berry Burn, and set slightly down on the S side, is a farmstead comprising three buildings, an enclosure and a kiln-barn. To the SE of the farmstead are three buildings terraced into the slope to varying degrees and measuring no more than 5.8m by 2.2m within stony footings 0.6m thick and 0.3m in height.

The kiln-barn measures 10.4m by 3.3m within wall footings 0.8m thick and 0.3m in height. The kiln-bowl measures 2m in diameter and 0.75m in height in four courses. Of the buildings to the NE, one has been truncated by a track while another has what may be a small bed-neuk or alcove, 1.4m wide, and an outshot to the E. Fragmentary ridging measuring up to 6m between furrows is visible in the improved ground to the N.
